Repeating a Workshop

Sometimes we are surprised and dismayed to find that the message from within is harsh, critical, demanding ... and how difficult it can be to feel compassion for these parts.

As a special research study for Psy.D. candidate Jennifer Kugel, Clarity Focusing is offering a two-day workshop at a discounted price.

The goal is to learn to apply basic Focusing skills to begin to change your relationship with the parts of yourself you may think of as “my Inner Critic.”  The first day covers the principles of working with critical parts in a Focusing way. One month later, we meet again for a full day of troubleshooting and learning. In between the two meetings, you will have three one-hour Focusing exchanges with another workshop participant, with help and coaching available as needed .

Participants will meet with Ms. Kugel before the first day of the workshop for an interview and to complete paperwork for the study. As a study and workshop participant, your identity is protected and your participation is confidential. The workshop will be conducted by Lerissa Patrick with assistance by Ms. Kugel.

Prerequisite: Completion of a Level 1 Focusing workshop with any Inner Relationship Focusing teacher.

For the cost of a long-distance phone call and just fifteen minutes of your time, you can dip your toe into the world of Focusing. This two-and-a-half-hour experience is designed to give you a taste of the Focusing experience in a safe, low-risk environment for a minimal charge. The essence of Focusing is a compassionate relationship with your inner self. You become aware of something inside that wants to give its message - something that yearns to be known. You begin to build trust in this inner relationship, and to receive the gifts that come from listening within. In this workshop, you will learn the skills necessary to begin your own Focusing practice, including how to:

• Create a safe, nurturing inner climate for listening to yourself
• Identify "felt senses" in your body
• Enable the felt sense to communicate its message to you
• Be a facilitative companion to another person as he or she Focuses
• Focus with the support of another person who listens     

This is the next stage after you have learned and practiced basic Focusing and Listening skills. Now you are ready to deepen and enhance your companionship skills, both with another person's Focusing process and with your own. Learn more about the theory behind the power of Focusing and why you never need to be stuck or stopped by impatience, doubt, fear, or any other blocking feeling. You will learn simple, clear and effective techniques for empowering another person's Focusing - even just by Listening.

In this workshop, you will learn how to:

• Be a better Focusing companion to yourself and to others
• Dis-identify from blocks such as impatience and self-criticism
• Release yourself or your partner from the most common stuck places in Focusing
• Use advanced Listening techniques to help your Focusing partners deepen their process
